Empowering Facilitators: A Look Inside the ESCAPERS Online Training Workshop

The success of the ESCAPERS project is measured not only by the quality of our games but also by our ability to transfer our knowledge and passion to others. With this in mind, we held our first online Facilitator Training Workshop today, a session dedicated to empowering a new group of professionals who will bring the magic of ESCAPERS to their own communities.

We digitally gathered a group of dedicated adult educators and caregivers, not to play a game, but to learn how to set one up from start to finish.

The Mission: From Blueprint to Practice

The goal of the training was clear: to deconstruct the process of organizing an ESCAPERS workshop and to give participants the practical tools and confidence they need to do it themselves.

What Did the Training Cover?

Our agenda was packed, focusing on three core pillars:

  • The “Why”: The ESCAPERS Philosophy. We started with a deep dive into our methodology. We analyzed why intergenerational learning is so important, how storytelling can become an educational tool, and what the role of play is in creating a safe space for empathy and connection.

  • The “Magic”: The Ice-Breaker Activities. We presented and tested a series of ice-breaker activities with the participants, designed specifically for mixed-age groups. These activities are key to transforming a group of strangers into a collaborative team ready to play.

  • The “How”: The Step-by-Step Guide. Next, we moved on to the practical aspects. We presented a detailed breakdown of the workshop organization process:

    • Before the game: How to prepare the materials, set up the space, and welcome the participants.
    • During the game: The role of the facilitator, techniques for providing smart hints, and managing group dynamics.
    • After the game: The crucial importance of the debriefing session and how to ask the right questions to maximize the learning and emotional impact.

Providing a Clear Framework

The training was structured to provide a clear and practical framework that is easy to follow. At the end of the presentation, time was allocated for questions and answers to resolve any queries and ensure all participants received the information they needed to move forward.

The Next Chapter

The participants left the online workshop equipped not just with notes, but with a comprehensive roadmap. They now have the tools and knowledge at their disposal to start implementing the ESCAPERS methodology. This transfer of knowledge is the core of the project’s sustainability and the beginning of a wonderful ripple effect.
